Through our presence, advocacy, education, and leadership we offer compassionate and practical support during life limiting illness, end of life care and grieving.

The diagnosis of a serious or life-limiting illness can have profound effects on a person, as well as on the person’s surrounding family and friends. Suddenly, life and death can take on important new meanings. The challenge of facing such a diagnosis involves living with uncertainty while still wanting to maintain meaningful control over whatever may lie ahead.
100 Mile District Hospice Palliative Care Society offer support through the overwhelming emotions and practical realities of coping with illness. We offer companionship, education, and advocacy. Our volunteers have extensive ongoing training and provide companionship that is rooted in providing comfort and empathetic listening to individuals and loved ones. Our motto is “Simple gifts; hearts, hands, and healing presence”. These are the gifts we bring when we support individuals and families at any point in their journey. Volunteers listen without judgement; they offer emotional, social, and spiritual companionship. Volunteers can help by providing caregivers with opportunities to take some much needed respite. The most important skill a volunteer brings is the ability to be a healing presence; creating a safe and caring space that allows individuals to share their life story and take charge of their own journey. No one needs to journey alone, the support of a knowledgeable and accepting person with no agenda of their own can be invaluable.
